Boston’s North End first began to take shape as a neighborhood in the mid-1600s. The North Square served as a main meeting point for the community, which harbored people from a variety of different backgrounds and professions. Commercial development began to take the North End by a storm in the 1800s, and the population began to boom as well. These buildings helped support the growing population and need for housing, and many can still be seen today.
